Superman has always been, by a large margin, my least favorite superhero. I've always found him stiff and vague--more an idea in a suit than a person. A lot of other DC heroes are great, but I never got Superman, or what people saw in him.

I saw the new Superman movie.

I get it now.

This movie is why I loathed all the DC Universe movies. They're why I haaated all of the other Superman movies except the first one.

They made the movie be about trust and kindness, before anything else, even when--and after--they're betrayed.

*That* is a Superman I can love.

Relating to superheroes has always been a problem for me. Even more recent marvel ones--they're all spectacle. Few of the problems they face are really human-shaped.

Honestly, only Jadzia Axelrod's Galaxy and Hawkgirl treatments have really felt personal to me.

I guess what I'm saying is this:

This is the first superhero movie that left me going, "Yeah, that's how I'd do it." Right down to being too trusting of people. Kindness, as the real superpower.

The Superman movie saved superhero movies for me, same way Dreadnought saved superhero stories for me.
