being fired from my job at the weighted blanket factory for suggesting the new super weighted blanket should use depleted uranium pellets
@poppyhaze clearly that should be enriched uranium pellets, we only want the best for our customers
@helle @poppyhaze atomic heated blanket
@poppyhaze go big or go home. Osmium.
@poppyhaze just pack an equivalent amount of boron-10 carbide pellets in there and you've got yourself an RTG blanket.
@gsuberland @poppyhaze heated AND weighted blanket? sign me up
@poppyhaze understandable, lead would be much more cost effective
@kirin depleted uranium is a waste product and very cheap
@poppyhaze https://crm.jrc.ec.europa.eu/graphics/cms_docs/pricelist_nuclear.pdf it doesn't seem to be at all cheaper than natural or enriched uranium, though I'm learning the price varies a lot regardless of enrichment level
@kirin @poppyhaze that's reference materials, not something you'd ever buy in bulk
@whitequark @kirin Boeing for instance used to put depleted uranium as counterweights in airplane mechanisms because it was essentially free for them.
