SCOTUS is overturning right to abortion

@jaialaiguy one might point out that the abolition of the right to abortion is led by persons who are biologically incapable of becoming pregnant (Barrett is the exception)

@maeve It’s Politico, so it’s most likely total bullshit. They don’t have a great track record. I’m seven pages in to the supposed draft decision .. from the look of it, they’ll probably just hand authority back over to individual states.

The argument is actually fairly strong. I don’t think most people in America realize this, but our abortion laws are pretty insane compared to our European counterparts. Most EU nations don’t allow abortions after the first trimester. Abortions must be approved by doctors in New Zealand, and they weren’t legal in Ireland until just this century.

The promise by Bill and Hillary Clinton in the 1990s was that abortions would be rare. I do not think abortions should be illegal. Too many women died from toxic shock; refusing to go to hospital after an unscrupulous abortionist butchered them, for fear of arrest. Still, the growing celebration of abortion as being a part of leftist womanhood, is frightening. It truly feels like a modern version of child sacrifice to Moloch from previous centuries.

This issue is much more complex that I think most people realize.

The Supreme Court never overturned Buck v Bell (forced sterilization), Koromatsu (internement of Japanese in concentration camps on American soil during WW2) or Jacobson (allowing a fine for refusal to vaccine; although SCOTUS did sorta remedy this recently, but I don’t believe they went far enough). This trifecta of SCOTUS human rights violations has never been overturned, because it’s never really come up again, but it is horrific law.

In some ways, I can see the argument of finally undoing a law that was never an entitlement the court should have granted. This should have been a legislative decision. If the Senate feels so inclined, they could pass new law allowing full access to abortion .. but the fact the country is still torn on the issue shows there was never a consensus of the morality of this decision.
