HomeTown is a fork of Mastodon which lets you make instance-only posts, adjust character limits and read long form rich text blog posts.
It's still part of the Fediverse, and HomeTown users can interact with Mastodon users totally fine.
Tech people can get self-hosting instructions here:

Non-tech people can use a managed hosting service to start their own HomeTown instance:
#FAB is having federation issues again
@cdmnky leaving the comment that got deleted for posterity
for reference: yeah im not surprised he deleted it. doesnt stop him being a shit. im just so tired of his bullshit that i had to tell him to fuck off already lmao
whats more galling to me is the fact that he actually ignores the points i make in this comment and just goes "wehh that was rude dont do that again :(" in the response later on lol
this is gargron's response to my criticism for intentionally removing local and federated timelines from the mobile app
he used the mastodon account to hide behind and delete @avie 's comment and close all further discussion on it
despicable.
Introduction
Hi folks! I'm Maia, and I'm new to this instance (though not to Mastodon as a whole)
I'm here hoping to meet new people and to establish mutuals c: I'm actively trying to minimise my online presence, so I'm hoping to use this account to interact with content that is meaningful to me instead of just following everyone and everything
I'm really into music, horror fiction, and cute hippie stuff c: I'm also very weedy, sex-positive, and witchy!
